Crackdown On NYC Cabbies Chatting

A new law makes it illegal for cab drivers to operate any electronic device with their hands while their cab is in motion.  The includes using a hands-free cell phone with an ear bud, or even a touchscreen GPS.  That means MP3 players as well.  Voice controlled GPSs are OK.

Walk New York With Caleb Smith

image

I didn’t originally plan on walking all those streets. But I’ve always liked to explore, and sightseeing is sort of an everyday activity, not limited to famous sites. I moved to New York in the summer of 2000, and everything seemed so glamorous. Even the most mundane things were cool, like, I don’t know, busses and post offices ("this is a New York City post office," I would think). I still get starry-eyed- I think a lot of people do. The biggest celebrity in New York City is New York itself…

          – Caleb Smith

Just because you are in one of the most densely-populated cities on the planet doesn’t mean that you should can use it as an excuse to not get out to get some fresh air and exercise.  Walk with Caleb, or follow his lead at New York City Walk.

ZOOM In For More Traffic Detail!

Did you know that there is a lot more traffic detail available beyond the default high-level city view for each locale?  There is now more traffic data available on smaller streets.  Just use the + sign in the upper left corner of your traffic map.  When you zoom in far enough, you can also see the street names.  Then zoom in a little more, you will even be able to see the street block numbers!

Use the arrows in the upper left map corner to quickly move around the map.  Or, simply use your mouse drag it to where you want it.
